  • 75k student loans/looking at Officer

Ok so I'm currently working in IT making more than 50k but I'm sitting on 77k of loan debt. I'm thinking of becoming an Officer. Specially medical officer doing admin etc. I like the loan forgiveness and it seems very beneficial to serve. My main concern is my private job in IT. Anyone had a good civilian job and went Guard? My fiancÚ of course hates the idea. I see it as a way to do something of value in my 30's. I'm 30 right now. Any advice?

14 or 15 years ago, I was an E6 in the Guard and made over 70k in IT. I was living in the northeast. Yes, it's possible but it was before 9/11 and deployments are decreasing. I am a Chief Warrant Officer on active duty and for the last six years my military job has been IT and I make more than I did 15 years ago. Have you considered active duty?
