  • Dentist seeking waiver...

    Hello,

I am a state-licensed practicing dentist and I'm considering a career in the National Guard. I have not had any contact with a recruiter yet, but that is my next step, dependant primarily on the feedback I receive in this Forum.

My main issue is that I was convicted of a DUI in 2009. Unfortunately, my state does not expunge DUI charges. What are the chances of being granted a waiver?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    Re: Dentist seeking waiver...

It varies by state and especially "needs of the Army." Dentists are a funny bunch, because they're hard to recruit but there aren't all that many slots per state. Waivers used to be quite easy for dentists to get, but with downsizing and cost-cutting, it's getting to be more selective. Call 800-Go-Guard and ask for the contact information for the AMEDD Officer recruiter and speak to this individual.

I'd do this now rather than later. What they may waive now, they may not a year from now.
