I shipped on 10/08 and it was in the 60's or so. Within a matter of 2 weeks it was into the 40's. At least you will be there in time to somewhat get your body used to it. My advice, don't start wearing your poly pros just yet. You need to climatize your body so when it gets to being in the teens and 20's everyday you aren't freezing. My phase 3 FTX had a high of 17 and a low of -5 during the day. Just sayin

Thanks for all the info! My recruiter told me it was gonna be cold but he said nothing compared to what you all have told me. I am from western North Carolina so I am used to snow and cold winters but is usually only drops to 30 or so here so I guess I am in for a treat lol.

It will get cold but there won't be a lot of snow. Ive lived in Missouri my entire life and in recent years we've only gotten 2 or 3 snows each year and those are usually only a couple inches. Temperatures can reach extremes both ways though. I've seen as low as -5 in the winter and as high as 105 in the summer. Spring and fall are usually really nice though.

It doesnt have the humidity that we are used to in the South, its 98% humidity today according to the weatherman on Tv this morning, so the heat is bad but not what your used too. But it is different. The dirst is dust and gravel, the skys were real pretty there I always thought.

-5 in winter? I am from North Dakota, it hardly gets above -5 for a high here Experience winter here and all others are mild, FLW will be like a heat wave in November when I get there.

Hey guys. A Marine coming to take your board over. lmao. So, I was heading to Fort Leonard Wood for my sister's graduation on my birthday in a week, but I then realized that I had finals the same day, so I'll stay here in Miami. My family is still going though.

If you guys could shed some light on what there is to do around there, I'd appreciate it. What is there to do for the whole family at the Fort and in the area, and in the bigger cities I guess if it's within the mile limits of where the new grads can go. Thanks a bunch.

                  Oohrah! lmao.

There are a few places to eat and that is about it. Is she graduating AIT or BCT?

If she decides to stay on post there are some thing to see driving around. On my family day we went to some of the picture spots around post. There is a small park that has memorial gardens for MP's, Engiqueers...ahem Engineers, and Chemical. There is also an old one room school house and a few other things. Google "Ft. Leonardwood driving tour" and it should bring it up.

My daughter graduated from BCT at FLW last summer. They were required to stay in the St. Robert area on family day. There are lots of chain restaurants right off the highway which is where most of the hotels are also.

We went shopping at the base store, went to lunch at Applebee's, went back to the hotel for a bit (so she could use the internet), and went shopping at Wal-mart after grad so she could buy some new civvies (she lost a lot of weight).

There really isn't much else to do other than that and drive around the base for photo-ops. Not too much time really either.

Yep, I'm at FLW right now and it's pretty dang boring. The weather seems to change really fast from sunny to thunderstorms, then sunny again. It's humid, but not that bad IMO. The base is clean, but driving in the BCT area (Iowa and Colorado street) is a nightmare with all the one way streets. The Px and food court are decent, but everyone seems to cram into Gamestop and Starbucks across the parking lot when they have passes. I spent an hour in line there just to make a purchase. Ridiculous. I normally would have just left, but I had nothing better to do since there isn't much around. LOL Now I have a PSP so that tells yah how bored I am.

I drove around the base today, and saw the gas chamber and warrior tower. I saw the "bubbles" where they do PT in bad weather. It was interesting to me, but I have no bad memories or associations with the base so I view it differently I'm sure. I watched some "hydration" formations and saw one guy freak out when he lost his battle buddy. I was also cracking up at all the BCGs. Those things should be banned.... They are so awful!

My hotel was right by "Big Louies". That place was packed on Thu/Fri/Sat night. I was shocked.

I ended up buying a PSP, at FLW also. There is nothing to do there and the privates take over the PX on weekends.

On our offpost overnight pass right before graduation a few of us went there after drinking a bunch of Dr. Peppers and Root Beers and I found it to be disgusting. Don't waste your time
