  • Reception And Basic

As National Guard soldiers, the ones that have gone to basic: Would you say that because of the RSP program, the drill sergeants could tell you were guard soldiers? because you were confident, or knew how the uniform was suppose to be worn, or helped everyone out, new how to act when a higher rank came in, etc.........?

It will be to your advantage, but you won't get any brownie points...per se'. Meaning it will help you do the right thing but, especially in the beginning, all Privates are 'treated the same' and you will still get the crap smoked out of you when the 'other guy' screws up. Learn all you can though, one less thing to worry about.

I believe that the RSP program has immensely improved the graduation rate of Soldiers that are in the National Guard but at the same time, Guardsman that enter BCT do not have an RSP stamp on them. You will have individuals that have JRTOC, cadet and prior service background. Also, many individuals that enlist active duty through the DEP spend numerous hours with their recruiters on the expectations of basic combat training. Yes, they do not have a weekend to train like they are in basic but all you need is some basic knowledge on D&C, customs and courtesies and ranks to be successful. And obviously, some decent physical fitness.
