  • Bringing College Transcripts to BCT

For anyone who has been to BCT and also had college credit...I am trying not to bother my recruiter as I feel like I always am and I know there are a few former recruiters on here...

I ordered copies of my transcripts to be sent to my recruiter directly. I do not have OFFICIAL copies of these transcripts. I have them from 3 different schools. On the list of things to bring it says to bring these transcripts. My question is, will my recruiter put his copies of my transcripts into my packet or is it my responsibility to get another set of them? I'm leaving in less than 4 weeks so if I do need them I need to get on getting copies ASAP.

    Thanks for input and help.

My advice is to never count on anyone when it comes to your own career management.

Your Recruiter should get them before you leave. Ask him/her to let you know when they receive them in the mail. That isnt an unusual request, you are just making sure the colleges sent them like you requested. When you are notified that they got them, ask if they are going to get them into iPERMS (online record) for you. If they say yes, then a few days later call back or visit and see if it got done in a polite way. If they say no, ask if they can email you a copy of them or if you can go to the office and pick them up. Then take them with you. If it is on a list to take with you, i'd still ask for the notification of receiving, even if they do get them into your records i'd still ask for a copy to take with me. You may never need them but better to have it than wish you did.

Agreed. I just finished my degree at the end of August and am trying to get E-4 before I ship in 11 days. The hang up comes with my commencement not happening until November, so no diploma or official transcripts until then. When I spoke to my recruiter about this back in April, he told me no worries that I can be promoted up to 6 months after I leave. I happened to do split op in May in the RSP office and mentioned it to one of the Sgts there and he said no way, he had to have something to prove I graduated in his hands before I ship in order to promote. Needless to say I have not spoken to my recruiter about it again and have only been dealing directly with the RSP NCO since. Follow your chain, but don't rely on someone else to take care of it for you.

You need to get the transcripts to your RSP, they should be the ones to take care of your promotion. You don't really need the transcripts at basic, they dont really care about them. It is only needed to do your promotion which should be done before leave anyways.

Thanks for all the replies! My transcripts have already been submitted to my recruiter and my rank is solidified as PFC. The list of things to bring said highschool diploma and college transcripts. I am wondering if I still have to bring them even though they have already been submitted.

Yes bring them. No you may not ever need them.

To others reading this thread: you can submit transcrips at a later date and get a promotion back dated. My Recruiter for got to submit mine. Then the copy he sent in was too dark and they didnt accept them. So about ten months after I enlisted but before I left for IET, I was promoted. Almost had the Time in Service for it anyways but it saved me a few months of waiting for 'auto' promotion. Once back dated you get the money you would have gotten at that rank, since the effective date of the transcripts entered into your records.

I agree. You may not need them, but having copies of important documents with you is nice; especially when something comes up, and you're needing them. I would recommend bring only copies with you to BCT. That should be enough to get you through training. HR NCO is correct. Your RSP should and/or recruiter should be taking care of all this before you leave.

                  Good luck!

I do have unofficial transcripts, would these work to bring just in case? It's just a such a process for me to get official ones because all of them are out of state. And also make a copy of my high school diploma as well then?

I'm a full time admin specialist and am only allowed to add official transcripts that actually came in an envelope from the school. The units send them to the Bn and then to me so by then I dont know what they came in and they are in digits by then, not paper form. I personally dont see if they came in an envelope at that point, I trust the unit checked that out. You should only need them if there is a mixup with your paperwork and hopefully that is all squared away and wont come into play. It is just so much easier to have it with you than try to obtain them once there. I witnessed many trying to get a hold of marriage and birth certificates during training because they THOUGHT it was all good but found out they needed a copy. Its just best to be safe and have them. Plus you were told to bring them and you should listen to direction.

Ok, so I might as well just suck it up and order the official ones today and hope they get here before I ship. At least if I need them in the future I will have a spare set. I have originals of everything else it was just the college transcripts I was unsure about.

I completely agree with what you're saying about Birth Certificates and Marriage license. But, I honestly don't see where the OP will need to have ORIGINAL transcripts for BCT. The only reason he needs them at all is for SLRP and for promotion. Both of those are taken care of before he even ships out.

Honestly, OP, I would just verify with your recruiter before you spend the extra money on ANOTHER set of transcripts.
