  • Be promoted to SSG while an officer candidate... what?

so at drill today, I was looking at some ARNG book, and it was talking about the traditional OCS... it says while in OCS, you get promoted to Staff Sgt? wtf???

I can understand E6 pay, but getting promoted to a Staff Sgt? is this true? you become a SSG while doing the 18 month program?? How is this even remotely possible? it's not like they tried to word it diff

here is a quick link and the little thing I saw

I know it made no sense... I guess they worded for civilians since they might not understand the whole pay grade thing... here is the link I found

They really should edit that, because it's not accurate. Officer Candidates hold the pay grade of E6, but they are not promoted to SSG. There is a difference; much like SMP Cadets hold pay grade E5, but are not Sergeants.
