    It looks like they don't give you the three years for the JD if you have 3 years commissioned service (it's like double dipping I think), so if it takes 3 years to complete and pass the bar, I'll have 5 years of commisioned service which puts me in the 1LT realm in their terms. I emailed the Major on Jagcnet but haven't gotten a response. It's still years away, so it's nothing urgent...
    I recommend that you make your decision on the long-term view, even if that means a short-term sacrifice. If you want to serve as a JAG, then go for it. If not, then serve in your basic branch capacity. I know of two civilian lawyers just in my command who serve as basic branch officers, because they want to do something different in their military careers.
