  • GED Applicant Tier 2 canadiate

    Hello,

I have a question regarding the Guard's policies on allowing tier 2 candidates to enlist. I currently posses a GED, and will be moving to California tomorrow. I would really like to enlist as a 25B (* IT Specialist *), however, I was told by a online guard recruiter - that I am unable to enlist.

My question is, why would the guard have a GED plus program & the patriot academy, but restrict GED candidates? I'm plenty capable of scoring above a 50 AFQT on the ASVAB, and would really like to serve my country, but am disappointed in the current policies in place that are barring prospective candidates like me from entering the Guard. I will most likely earn 15 college credits next semester, so I can pursue this dream, however, if there was a way in somehow I'd really love to hear it.

    Regards,

    Aric

There in lies the age old question...why is that the case? Most likely its because the guard has spent thousands of dollars building up the GED plus program and so they are going to continue sending people through it. Waivers can be requested on a case by case basis in order for those with GED to enlist. I just had a guy brought to me a couple weeks ago who enlisted with just a GED. Get a with a local recruiter and see what they can do, but there are no promises.

Thank you sir for your timely response. I will most likely get in contact with a Guard recruiter this week, and try to present my situation to the best of my ability - while showing great maturity in hopes that the recruiter will give me a shot to take the ASVAB and try to issue me a waiver for this situation from the recruiting command.

Are there any tips you could give me in this situation? I mean, other than getting the 15 college credits (* which I believe have to be 100 level. *).

Thank you for your time sir.
