  • Camp Williams Utah RSP

Hey everyone. I enlisted on Monday but I attended RSP as a civilian this past Saturday. I'd just like to share my experience.

I arrived at around 0745.The first thing we did was hold a formation in the gym. Some privates got promoted and the NCOIC went over what we wee going to do.Next we rushed to the auditorium to hold a battle hand off ceremony. Soldiers who had just gotten back from BCT/AIT were handed off to their unit representatives and honor graduates were given coins. It was a pretty good ceremony and it made me think to myself "I'll be there some day"

Next we went back into the gym for weapons familiarization. We went over the parts of the m16a2 and its characteristics. We were also issued rubber m16 which we had to carry around for the rest of drill. We were taught weapon safety and how to properly carry an m16 around.

Then we got to actually disassemble and reassemble the m16s.It was pretty interesting to see how it all works. After practicing that a few times the sergeants set up a competition among recruits to see who could disassemble/reassemble the rifle the fastest.I got to participate although I didn't beat anyone's time lol. The winner did it in 2:08.

After all of this fun we marched off to wash our hands and then to chow.We ate fairly quickly and then we were put back into formation outside the readiness center. We marched over to the other side of the base to another building.About half of the recruits stayed there and the other half of us were marched to the PX to see what it's like.

The PX was pretty boring. They had all kinds of stuff but no one bought anything. We all ended up just sitting in a recreation room where they had a movie playing. After about half an hour we were marched back into the building we had just left

We went into a room where they had a training simulator set up.It was the coolest thing ever in my opinion. They had real m16/m4s and an m249 hooked up to air compressors and sensors and pointing towards a large screen. We got to shoot at virtual enemies that would come up on the screen. I got the opportunity to shoot the m249 and it was fun to see how to load/reload it and to feel a little kick. We rotated on and off the simulator with the other group of recruits for a few hours. After that it was back to the readiness center. We had another formation and practiced doing functions checks for a little while.

The last thing we did before I had to leave was play dodge ball which was fun and then we had a smoking session which ******!

All in all it was a great experience. It made me realize that I have to start PTing again and that I have to memorize the soldier's creed, general orders, and the Army song.

    Hooah!

Do you know the rank structure?

          Customs and Courtesies?

What is the difference between a Corporal and Specialist? Master SGT, and First SGT?

What is a fire-team, squad, platoon and it's rank structure?

There are some really good books out there that you can be reading such as the enlisted soldier's guide. Or some such as We were soldiers. or Never Surrender.

            **********
Do everything you can to make yourself better in the Army, go the extra mile, lead from the front.

You can even start corespondence courses if you want (I think) Max out eveything you can brother. HOOAH, over the top, no surrender. HOOAH motivated.

Thank you for the advice sir! It means a lot to me.I really do want to be the best soldier I can be.I kind of know the rank structure but not too well. Also I do not know the differences between those ranks I took a look at "the enlisted soldier's guide" and "We were soldiers once and young" on Amazon and I'll be buying them.I hope to be fully prepared when I go to BCT and when I come back and start college/ROTC.

                  Re: Camp Williams Utah RSP

Wow it sounds like your rsp is on the ball. I have been doing rsp since Aug and I ship Monday. We havent done half of the stuff you mentioned. Congrats on enlisting and good luck.

On a side note, I grew up in West Jordan actually but moved to Wisconsin in Feb. I graduated from Copper Hills. I love it out there and miss the mountains and 4 wheeling and all my family is back there too in the West Jordan area. Anyway, good luck again.

You're welcome. Read it now and you can just use it to refresh your memory in BCT and make you look busy. I did it and it helped me be more observant of my surroundings.

Yeah, that is a great link. Open it up to page 32; memorize the Soldier's Creed.

                            Re: Camp Williams Utah RSP

Sorry to hi-jack, but I am also part of this program and had a few questions.

I swore in a week ago and went through the process to get the basic gear and paperwork. I went through MEPS and handed the thick personel folder to my recruiter who took it to "processing" at the Draper station. I was given two phone numbers to my Cadre/Camp Williams A company RSP group. I have left two messages on one number, and the other number is disconnected.

Here's the kicker. I found out through another SSG at the Draper headquarters that my next (first) Drill is April 28th. Well.....I ship to Ft. Leonard Wood on the 30th.

I am likely just being impatient and worrysome - but help me out here....I have read through the battlebook...memorized the soldiers creed.....and I am worried about:
                            1. I don't have my packet to take to BCT - I gave that to my SSG who took it to "processing". I received some copies at MEPS, but nowhere near what I handed off.
                            2. How am I supposed to get ahold of someone to figure out where/how/when I do drill....and how that is going to play into leaving Sunday night for the hotel for MEPS/Ship date?

Sorry, but I am lost here....needing some direction/ideas on what to do.

                            thanks much :-)

Don't worry about it. You aren't supposed to have your packet. They will have it for you when it is time to ship out. Also, dont worry, they will be tracking you down to ship out and also about drill, you don't have to worry about hunting them down. Chances are that the people you've been trying to reach may be on leave or gone doing training or something. Believe me, they need you to ship just as bad as you want to ship so they will be tracking you down before then.
