There is absolutely nothing to be nervous about. You're about to have the time of your life. Basic is awesome.

After you sign enlistment papers, you can go to a DEERS office anytime to get your CAC card.

You don't get it at RSP. I was at RSP 10 months when I first enlisted in 2008 and never got it, however, like said, you can get it at a DEERS office.

As for RSP, it's not bad. When I was there, we'd get checked in, get our linens on our bunks, and go take a PT test right away. Then shower, have lunch, and do class basically the rest of the day, maybe some D&C, and the frequent push-ups. They're prepping you for basic, so they do very mild smokings. You'll have time to shower again before bed, lights out at 2100, wake up at 0500, do some PT, shower up, eat breakfast, a class or two, then basically it's barracks clean up. If you stepped a foot in an area, you'll clean it. Get out around noon to 1300, get a sack lunch on the way out.

Keep in mind this was how MY RSP was in South Dakota, no guarantee's how accurate it is in your state. Personally, I found basic a lot better than RSP. The smokings were worse in basic, but you also have a LOT more fun in basic. It's nothing to be nervous about, however stay away from your 1sg...keep your tongue in your mouth and...something else in your pants.

I got my ID at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. Is there a base close to you?

You're best bet is to ask your recruiter closet place to get the I.D.

For my RSP we needed to be in ACU, clean, presentable and have your I.D. on you for inspection.

Be sure to read your drill letter, it'll tell you what uniform to be in. I was to be in PT's ready to do a PT test, we didn't need our ID.

In RIARNG, all recruits get escorted by their recruiter to the J-1 office, for an ID (CAC) card, inside our state HQ (CRC). This happens between 7-10 days after the soldiers enlistment date. Sometimes the J-1 staff are willing to bring their ID card making gizmo machines to RSP to help any straglers. Your state may run differently. NO WORRIES TROOP ! You'll get yours.

Re: Military ID card at RSP?

RSP might have a RAPIDS machine or the state has portable ones. RAPIDS is the system used basically to make the ID cards among access DEERS which holds personal information about you and your dependents if you have any. Its what I do for a living. lol Each state and possibley each RSP Company in the state will have their own way of doing things. Its hard to just give concrete answers to some questions as this is the case for many things with the Guard. You will however need two forms of identification and depending on their protocal, may require an ACU for your picture on the card. Not saying they will for sure, its a requirement outside of the country if you are getting a military ID but it differes stateside. It would be great to give you an answer but its going to depend on your chain of command. The only concrete answer in this case will come from them or someone else that has experienced it recently at the same location. All the above answers are helpful but may not be the case for you.

It takes time to get entered into the system. You may also want to bring your contract, birth cert, marriage/divorce certs if applicable so they can fully enter you into the system if you havent been. Two forms of ID can be DL, BC, SSC, passport.... not an exclusive list.

The reason others have brought up your comment about your 1sgt is because your only job is to have respect for this person, not say those things about him/her. You are new and will learn, just be open to the teaching!

Just an FYI for anyone that wants to know how soon they can get their military ID: I swore in a little over a week ago and I just got my ID and a dependent ID for my wife today at the RAPIDS office on the Air Force base in Birmingham, AL. The counselor at MEPS told me it normally takes a week for your info to be processed before you can get your ID. I also picked up info on tri-care for National Guard/Reserve as well as active duty while I was there. There is a RAPIDS locator website that I found out about somewhere in a thread on this discussion board.

nope, just you. That is unless you get them to sign up as well, then they can have one too
