SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii Four hundred soldiers will soon be moving into a new Hawaii home.

The Honolulu district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Thursday a new complex on Schofield Barracks in central Oahu has officially opened.

The two five-story buildings will house 2nd Brigade Combat Team soldiers. Each two-person suite includes a kitchenette and shared bath. Amenities include a central laundry unit per floor along with outdoor basketball courts and picnic areas. Environmentally friendly features include low-flow faucets and tinted windows that reduce heat transfer.

Honolulu District Commander Lt. Col. Douglas Guttormsen says the barracks will be a welcome sight for soldiers returning from deployments. He says many of them will have completed multiple combat deployments and the new facility will provide a high quality of life between deployments.
