  • Military things that you love. :)

I'll have to get back to you on this one but thought the thread was appropriate since we have one thread on what irks us.

    The comradery.
    Having a purpose.
    The legacy.
    Free PT
    The benefits.
When you see someone doing the right thing and know they could have taken a different path.

Having a clear chain of command. I can't count the number of times I tried to get something done in my civilian jobs, and had no idea who to start with.

        1) Camaraderie
        2) Good order and discipline
        3) AD pay with all the allowances (Uncle Sugar takes care of his own)
        4) Education benefits and training opportunities
        5) 30 days paid vacation. (wished weekends were excluded). Civilian job I get 6 weeks vacation weekends are freebies.
        6) AMC flights ($10) when I was stationed In Okinawa it was nothing to catch a hop to Korea, mainland Japan, Philippines, Guam, or Hawaii etc
        7) Accompany tours overseas was the best got a phat COLA check ($1200 extra a month) and lived in deluxe accommodations Kadena AB (Airforce was in charge of housing).
        8) Alot of "96" hour passes.....If you take care of the "old man" then the "old man" will take care of you!
        9) Travel experiences....was unlimited. I was apart of the "gator navy" I hit every port call that the 6th and 7th Naval fleet docked at. Not too mention being stationed overseas in Subic bay NB in PI, and Okinawa Japan for two accompany tours.
        10) MWR facilities, and Legal/Family services we all take for granted.

        * Disclaimer this is mostly experience from an AD point of view.

Not having a choice, sometimes it is not a bad thing. Should I wear my faded baby poop green socks or the new ones that are too large? I dont wear them because i'm supposed to either, I wear them because they are the most comfortable socks in the boots for me.

1.) The ability to say I jump out of airplanes and conquered my own fears.
2.) the civilian job I wouldn't have without my clearance and army experience
3.) the friends I've been to war with.

Is it a thread jacking if you started it? Quick off topic then right back. I went sky diving for the first time on R&R last year and only had time for one jump. They were only open on weekends, it was a Sunday, they were busy, and I left town the following week. THEY REOPEN IN APRIL!! I'm paying for the package deal, 25 jumps and getting certified! I loved it last year! I cannot wait.

              K, back to topic now...

Making good quality friends that you can relate with, something that your civilian friends will never understand.
