Question: I was told my TIS/TIG from prior service will only count for pay and not promotions? Can anyone confirm that for me?

TIS is for your pay. If you coming in new again, TIG starts from day 1. When I went from Guard to active, I was able to change my TIG to go to a board but its dependent on your unit.

Thanks... So TIS from prior service will count towards promotion?

      Private (E-2) - Six months time-in-grade (TIG) as a private (E-1).
Private First Class (E-3) - Four months TIG as a Private (E-2) and 12 months time-in-service (TIS).
      Specialist/Corporal (E-4) - 6 months TIG with 24 months TIS.

This is the answer my recruiter gave me in an email:

No, your overall time in service counts for pay but you have to put in time in service in the guard to qualify for promotion.

I believe he meant TIG. TIS is TIS.

He told me I have to put the time in the Guard and that my 32 months in the RA doesn't count. I'm having a hard time with believing that... But I thrust he is telling me what he thinks is the right answer.

sounds like some prior service, AF E-4 recruiter lol.
I can see the point with retirement because 20 years active TIS vice 20 years reserve doesnt give the same pension but believe me, you are ok for promotion because there is no sub category to track that for promotion. There is no difference for TIS for pay and promotion eligibility. I love to see that section on an ERB.

Last question: Has anyone heard of a waiver to go back in the ARNG after recieving an RE-3 as an E-4?

I read today a new recruit can earn up to E-3 for reccomending soldiers for enlistment. Is it possible to get my E-4 back since I have a Bachlors Degree now?

As I said; this is my last ditch effort before making my final decision.

Thanks to everyone for all your insights.
