  • MEPS Refusing Physical?

I was discharged from BCT as EPTS in May of 2008 due to compund fractures and transverse process fractures in my lower back. I waited the required 6 months and have been trying to re-enlist in the Guard. I have went to numerous doctors (Chiropractors, Orthopedic Specialists, etc) and had x-rays done showing that my back has healed and there are no hinderances to me rejoining the Military. I have even been Dodmerb approved since I had shown interest in the ROTC program. My recruiter sent my paperwork off to MEPS to get my waiver process started. He let me know the other day that MEPS has refused to even let me come and physical saying "I have not met a standard." Is this true or is it a line of bull? If it is true, what can be done now? All I've ever wanted to do is serve my country like many of my family has. The little taste of military I had at BCT left me hungry for more. All help would be appreciated.

it is true, and not much.

maybe you can get a copy of the med read from meps showing what the standard is for you.

My recruiter said something like contacting NGB and seeing about forcing MEPS to let me physical? Is this possible and what are the usual outcomes of this?

I had the same. They had an recruiting & retention officer sign a letter letting me physical, irregardless of my RE code. Then I got DQ'ed at MEPS and it allowed the waiver process to start.

How do I get in touch with a recruiting and retention Officer, and how long did your waiver process take once the physical was over and you were able to re-join? I called South Carolinas department of Veterans affairs and they got in touch with the NG adjutant General who said he would request reconsideration. Maybe he can help?

My recruiter handled it all for me. It was pretty painless. He just had them sign a letter, and we were off to MEPS. From there I had to schedule a consult, after the consult was over (this took about 2 weeks) they approved the waiver. The guard stopped accepting medical waivers at this time though, so I was in a holding pattern from April through September. Then re-enlisted on 9/26.

I'd talk to your recruiter or talk to your recruiters boss.

My recruiter seems to be dragging his feet a little. He said it would take around a month to get Meps to take me for a physical. That seemed like a long time to sign a piece of paper. I've been working with this recruiter since august and have only got this far.

                  Re: MEPS Refusing Physical?

Well , i have been waiting ever since my first pot for NGB to get back to my recruiter about getting me to MEPS. I called my recruiter today for an update. He says no word yet and basically tells me that even if I got approved to go to Meps i would be disqualified and that more than likely a waiver would not be granted. Then he proceeded to tell me I might want to find another recruiter. Is this guy just lazy and doesn't want the hassle? I have bascially wasted my time since august with this guy. Is there any way to tell if he ever sent any paper work off in the first place? BTW what are the regs on 1 kidney stone ever in lifetime and also what are the regs on compound fractures and transverse process fractures? Isn't it 25 degrees or something of that nature? Thanks for any help.

Sound like a lazy POS Recruiter to me. Recruiters don't decide waivers, they submit them. Time to find another Recruiter.

Now i know this is an old post, but this is something that i have been dealing with. both of my recruiters have not got me a physical. it is good to know that even if the meps CMO does not want to give you a physical to get the waiver ball rolling, that you can still proceed. Im hopeing that my new recruiter goes that extra mile for me.
