  • orried about being sent over to Iraq.

    Hello,
I know this may sound selfish of me, but I am thinking of joining, but am worried about being sent over to Iraq. I'd like to join as a 92y, unit supply specialist.
Since this mos is a critical mos eligible for the enlistment bonus, does that mean that most of the 92y's are being sent over?

Thank you, and again, sorry for sounding selfish,
    cu

The force is balanced based on needs. Thus, in general, every MOS has just as much chance of deployment of any other. If we have more of one MOS, that just means that we need more of them in general. A small MOS doesn't mean that you're necessarily more or less likely to get called in general. Obviously, in the real world statistical anomalies occur. In 2003, pretty much every MP in the Army went to Iraq. We've since corrected that imbalance.

I recommend taking the job that's best for you, and not try to game the system. You'll drive yourself crazy.

Joining the Armed Forces means that you will always have the chance of being deployed. If you want to join for the perks, it's probably not the best to enlist while we're at war.

This is no offense to you but in my opinion if your not willing to go to war do not join. Thats what the army is meant to do, go and fight. If you are going to join any military branch in my opinion you should be ready to give your life for your country.

Critical Skill MOS means that the state or NGB need more people in that job due to manning shortage. It dose not mean that they need more people in 92Y to deploy. It just about a manning shortage issue.

OK, thank you for your replies.

I will be getting certified as a welder here in near future(weeks/month). I was just wonderin if there are any welding, and or, any repair/building MOSs in the NG that do welding? Also, will a welding cetification help me in any way with enlistment?

              Thank you,
              cu

The Guard does have welder jobs. Contact a recruiter and they can tell you if your state has any and were.

Don't join for the bonus money. You probably will not see all of it anyway. The National guard is chewed up, and for the most part a huge waste of time. Do yourself a favor and get a stable civilian job, and leave the Army crap for some GI Joe wanna-be PT studs. I wasted my time in the Guard, and my high-speed aviation company was a mail-flight joke in Iraq. And the Idaho Guard is the biggest joke of all...they can't even figure out how to use a phone or e-mail.

                    CU,

I certainly wouldn`t recommend joining the Forces in the current climate, unless your willing to be deployed. However, I also wouldn`t worry about being sent to Iraq, if you joined up within the next few months, you`ll more than likley end up in Iran instead.:)

                      hrm.

I joined for the pride, the honor, (much more) but also the money. Im a 92Y and I get that 20K bonus. Im confident i'll get that money because i trust my sergeant to file in the papers for me instead of some random guy in my unit.

But, just to emphasize... I joined 92Y under the impression that Im going to be deployed more than once. Im fine with it. Do whatchya gotta (and can..for goodness sakes :p ) do.

Scout my unit here in Bend Oregon was recently shipped out and they say that they arn't supposed to be shipped out fro another 5 yrs. but we all know even the newest recruites know that at any time our unit can be Shipped out I don't know what religion you are of but I'm Christian and all I can say is May God help you in your decision don't feel selfish for not being certain on what to do just remember Fear is not all bad it is what will keep a person alive at certain points God Bless you and good luck on whatever you may do in life.
