  • Marine ribbons?

I'm a prior service Marine and I just finished enlisting into the Guard today.
I was just wondering which of my ribbons carry over?

    Heres a list:
    Combat Action Ribbon
    Naval Unit Commendation
    Good Conduct Medal
    National Defense Service
    Iraqi Campaign
    GWOT Service
    Sea Service Deployment (x2)

    Any help would be appreciated.

All your ribbons carry over but you will need to wear your commendation ribbon on your right-side of your Army Service Uniform formerly knowns as the dress blues. You will wear it without a frame. Also, by Army regulation, if you had a Navy/Marine overseas ribbon, you could wear the Army overseas ribbon instead but not both. You will have to have your S1 annotate that in your ERB (enlisted record brief).

          On the right side, huh?

You know... I'm starting to think I should have gone to basic... if nothing else, it would have been a good way to learn the uniforms.

I'm going to have all sorts of fun questions for the S1... and who ever my squad leader is will end up inspecting my uniforms to make sure
          they're squared away.

Thanks for your help. I've been browsing the net looking for information, but the Army regs are confusing to me; especially when you add the
Marine element to it (we're not very bright, lol).

            Here are some references...

            http://www.mrfa.org/unitnavy.htm

A couple of words of caution: The Navy wears all "unit" ribbons on the left breast in a main ribbon cluster. When ordering be sure to ask for the Navy metal bracket that surrounds the RVNGC and RVNCA ribbons. The Army bracket is larger because they wear their "unit" ribbons on the right breast. Also, sometimes the devices to be attached to the ribbons or medals are thrown loosely into your package. Be sure you inspect the contents thoroughly before tossing your packing material.

http://www.americal.org/awards/wearing.htm This link shows (on paragraph b copied below) what ribbons you wear on the right side.

            b. U. S. unit awards. A unit award is given to an operating unit and worn by members of that unit who participated in the cited action. Some unit awards are also authorized for temporary wear by other personnel while actually serving in the cited unit. Listed below in their order of precedence are the U.S. unit awards authorized for wear on the Army uniform:
            1. Presidential Unit Citation (Army, Air Force)
            2. Presidential Unit Citation (Navy)
            3. Joint Meritorious Unit Award
            4. Valorous Unit Award
            5. Meritorious Unit Commendation (Army)
            6. Navy Unit Commendation
            7. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award
            8. Coast Guard Unit Commendation
            9. Army Superior Unit Award
            10. Meritorious Unit Commendation (Navy)
            11. Navy 'E' Ribbon
            12. Air Force Organizational Excellence Award
            13. Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation
