  • Picking MOS before signing for 09s?

I am signing a 09s contract on Tuesday, but I am worried about the MOS my recruiter made me pick to reserve a slot for BCT. My recruiter made me pick Food Operations Specialist, because he did not want to get in trouble for filling a high priority slot with someone who will never do said job. When I say 'made me' basically he refused to put me in the slots for an MOS I would like to do if an act of god prevents me from completing OCS.

Granted, I know I will never attend AIT for this MOS, and I won't even show up to the unit, but I am still paranoid about being tricked (it's happen before and I caught him trying to enlist me instead of doing 09s). Basically, I'd like to be in some control if the worst case scenario happens. I feel with my educational background and professional experience, that if I am a Food Operation Specialist I would be extremely underutilized.

Does this sound like basic procedure?

I dropped out of OCS for personal reasons (I will be going back in a few years though). After I did I was allowed to pick a new MOS. I was originally contracted to be a 35F as my back up. I ended up becoming a 68W. If you happen to drop out, ask your recruiter if you can pick a new MOS. You wil get to choose from what is available (which may not be a lot).

Same boat. I was slotted as a band member... go with it, get the 09S and drive on.

I was also told to pick 3 back up MOS, I cant remember what I picked except i think they were all intel, on my AARTS transcript, however, it shows me as a band member as well. Why? I dunno.

Don't worry about you MOS on "paper" it is used more for you to have a place to go to get your equipment, and information for your packet, etc...

I was a 91b and will be a PL in a Trans Co. Before I decided to go Trans I was going to be in a CAV unit...

I was worried about having the recruiter place me in a MOS i did not want as well. At the time i was of the same mindset that it didn't matter anyway and that i would get through OCS. Since coming back from basic and waiting for the Accelerated Course in the winter to come around, things in my life have changed. At this point going enlisted for a bit is the better option. When i originally asked if I would be able to pick something different...(i read that on the forum), the recruiter told me it wouldnt be a problem. Well my chain of command at RSP and my recruiter had no problem with it recently and told me to choose a job from the open vacancy list. I did that and they forwarded the request for trianing dates up. The command in my states capital came back and said that i signed my contract for 88M and that was what i was going to me doing. In fact the CSM said that. My chain of command was stunned and did not think it would be a big deal for me to simply pick a job and go to AIT. So they told me to either stay in OCS or do 88M. I am wondering if it just depends on the state or the chain of command whether or not they will change your contract or not. Is there some certain regualtions that dont allow it. i imagine it may differ from state to state. Any suggestions on what i can do?

Ait for 88M is 7 weeks long. AIT for 13F (the job i want) is 6 weeks.

If they will change your contract? No one has to change your contract, thats why it is a CONTRACT. Dont depend on anything, if you so not want that MOS (regardless of the circumstances) dont take the flippin' MOS. Whoever is telling you things can be changed (yes it does happen, but hence the contract, they do not HAVE to happen) may not be around when you want them changed and down the road your Recruiter has less and less to do with you it is up to other people. No i'm not saying the Recruiter is giving wrong info, i'm just saying common sense tells me if you dont want an MOS DONT have it in your CONTRACT.

wow, thats the worse i've been on here I think but for criminy sakes!

Hi, i signed as a 09s in PR in June and i didn't have to choose a back up mos. so i guess it depends on the state because my contract only mention 09s as mos nothing else.
