LOL...because he was a terminal "full bird" as well... Master your craft, max out your PME, and try to earn a degree. If you can't move up on the enlisted side go to the officer side "green to gold".....Hooah good luck hard charger!

Yup, I finished my time as an E4. No regrets. Meant more time with my family. To each his own.

Might have been WLC in 2009.
The marines still use the CPL/ LCPL rank. I laughed at the fact that they refer to me as a "CPL" on my check stub.

No really?! Thats the Marine's, we are refering to the Army. CPL is a rare and useless rank in todays Army IMO.

As a matter of fact the USMC is the only branch of the armed forces left on planet Earth that still actively uses CPL and the only branch that uses Lcpl. What? No other SPC in the Army gets called CPL on their check stubs?

CPL (E-4)is a NCO in the Corps; It is earned and not given automatically. CPL's in the Marine Corps usually has the same "billet" or responsibility as a SSG in Army, TSGT in AF, and PO1 in the Navy. The Marine Corps strives on small unit leadership. SSGT's in the Corps are SNCO's. Too earn the Rank of Corporal it is based on a "cutting score" system. Similar to AD Army E5/E6 promotions. It consists of Pros/cons evals, PFT score, Marksmanships scores, and TIS/TIG; Of course must be in standards and NOT a phat body.

LCPL/PFC/PVT (E-3 to E-1) is a NON RATE similar to your specialist- pv1. The rank is automatic as long with in standards and meet TIS/TIG.

In the Corps it is not uncommon to have CPL's as Squad leaders, Crew Chiefs on Helo's, or Plane CPT on F/A-35/F/A-18 etc. Corporals and Sergeants in the Corps lead troops.

Side note even sheiot hot LCPL's have some of the same responsibilities as listed above. Once again not uncommon.

Awaiting the haters for comments. Fire for effect.....Repeat Repeat Repeat!

No hater here. I just love military history period. I've had close relatives (ret.), not some 5th removed cousin, in all branches--including the Marines--except the Coast Guard from WWII to Operation Enduring Freedom. And if things go the way I've been told looks like I may be shipping to Afghanistan next year.

Now look what you did. You got 7011USMC all riled up. All that's left is for Chappy to somehow tie in Corporals to 56Ms and we'll all be doomed.

Quoted for truth, and to add I think this is something the Army has lost sight of. We should push down leadership, what happens when that E-4 has to take charge? I have a SPC that is acting as a team leader and as long as he does his job as he has been he will hold it.

The lower enlisted are taught leadership roles. At least in every combat arms company I have ever been in this has been the case. You are supposed to know the jobs and duties 2 ranks above your own. E-4's are placed in team leader positions all the time, and evey once in a while squad leader positions.
