  • Fort Benning basic for a 12k plumber?

At MEPS I recieved my orders to ship to Fort Benning for my basic training on Nov 1st. However, no one from my RSP, friends of mine in the guard, not even my recruiter can seem to figure out why they would send me to an infantry basic having the 12k plumber MOS. A few of the green phase guys at RSP said that could change before I ship out. Can anyone give me any info as to why i'm going to Fort Benning or if they could change where i'm going to basic before I ship?

You're a 12K? You'd be the first I've ever known to hold that MOS......

I'm not sure if that is good or bad. My recruiter said it used to be 21k but it is now known as 12k..

Either way, other MOS do get trained there.

For your initial training it does not matter where you train. In basic you are all trained the same. It is in AIT where you will be trained in your individual field. Of coarse since I have not shipped yet I dont know 100% but that is how I took it, with all the info I was given and told.

I am shipping to Benning January 3rd and I am 25Q, I also have AIT in GA.

Dont worry so much about where you are going, just focus on the training.

Initial Entry (Basic Combat Training) can be at any of the several AD posts. Fort Jackson, Fort Sill, Fort Benning, Fort Leonardwood ect. It's a matter of seat avaliblity and if you are in a OSUT MOS. Other than the gender issue at Fort Benning, any MOS can go to basic there. Go to Benning and make the Engineer Corps proud. Essayons!

I have about 7 in my platoon alone, 2 being NCO slots.

                    To the OP,
12K AIT is at Devil's Lake ND, unfortunately/fortunately for you they do not have a basic training unit there so you will be sent to the location that has open slots. A couple of my guys went to Benning.

But combat arms OSUT is all-male training compared to other integrated BCT. I went through 12B OSUT and since we were all-male alot of hazing went on behind close doors. I know the DS are more mentors now but I believe all-male compared to integrated are two different things. Anyone agree or it does not make a different whatsoever?
