  • 25M and Officer Rank

I just graduated from college with a BS in media and was wondering about the 25M job and if that would be a good fit for me? Also I was told since I have a degree I can get officer status?

25M I'm pretty sure is an enlisted MOS. The way it was told to me was generally anything specific is enlisted while officers are general managers within their career management field.

What does enlisted MOS mean exactly?

The Army calls their enlisted jobs MOSs, or "Military Occupation Specialties.'' Similar specialties are divided into "branches" for officers or "fields."

Multimedia Illustrators are primarily responsible for supervising, planning or operating multimedia imaging equipment in order to produce various kinds of visual displays and documents. This is an enlisted job.

Yes, with a degree you can become an officer, meaning you may qualify for Officer Candidate School, should you choose to apply. There are other requirements in the application process though. Direct commissions are for doctors, lawyers and chaplains. With a degree you would most likely be enlisted as a Specialist rank (E4).

Defintely a better explanation. If I'm not mistaken, chris36, you are a 09S Officer Candidate?

To OP I would direct any questions on becoming an officer to her.

Yes, I am an 09S, but there are much more qualified people, than me, on this forum to answer questions about becoming an officer.

I would ask one of the actual officers.

There's a good chance that an officer candidate is more familiar with the subject matter that pertains to the OP's question than more senior officers that have not dealt with recruiting in a while.

25M is an enlisted MOS. Enlisted meaning you would enlist as a Specialist (E4) since you have a degree. A degree does not automatically qualify you as an officer. To become an officer you must qualify for OCS and complete OCS (or ROTC, but seeing as you have a degree I doubt you want to go back to school to join ROTC). There is an enlistment option, O9S, which you would attend Basic Training, then get slotted for OCS, without picking up an enlisted MOS. If you want to 25M job, you will not be a commissioned officer. If you wish you become an officer with in t he 25 series (signal) you would be a 25A.

What would be the duties of a commissioned officer and when you say 25A is that an MOS or something else? Sorry for all the questions haha

Say I applied online right now, how would I go for this position? Would I need to qualify or do I automatically get trained for the position?

You could tell your recruiter that you are interested in it, but there has to be an opening for it in your state.

If the job is posted on the website does that mean there is an opening?

Not necessarily, you would want to contact a recruiter in your area to be sure of what is available.
