  • Psyop, miso, io

Does anyone know of any MISO slots ANYWHERE in the Guard right now? Indiana let me IST from Oklahoma as a 37F and now they are saying I don't have a job.

What is MISO? Isn't that like a Top Ramen Factory or something?

If you don't have the job, you could look at Campbells or Chunky?

@ OP Psyops can be hard to find slots for in the Guard. A buddy of mine had to go to the Reserves to get one.

@ FutureEngineer- You are just making yourself look like and idiot. If you don't know what is being talked about on here simply ask. Don't be a smart@$$.

        I was asking.

        Thank you very much.

It sounds like a Ramen company like Maruchan or Nissin.

I'm sure that you can have a job, just not as a 37F. You must know that this is a very small career field. You will only find slots in BCTs and Division HQ. While the USAR has actual MISO units, that may not help you, because of their locations (I'm not certain, but I bet those units are all on either coast).

The Guard has a number of 37F vacancies across the country, although they are all E7-E9 slots. You didn't mention your pay grade, but I'm guessing it's lower than E7. I recommend that you reclass for now, and keep an eye out for a 37F opening in your local area.

So I googled MISO, and I basically got the same links to a Japanese seasoning, and a Japanese noodle company, and then a Japanese power company. Reading Mr. Richies Post I realize it was something with 37F, so I googled 37F and got Psychological Operations Specialist.

So is MISO somekind of indeerment phrase for a Psyop guy?

Also, going into job adds for a Psychological Operations Specialist, all the hits I got were for the Army Reserve. Same with a job called "Civil Affairs Specialist". Not 100% exact on what either job does, but looking more into the stuff it says you have to be a "Staff Sergeant -E6" or higher to take any of the job listings that I found. Or be a "Captain O3" or higher.

So does that mean Soldiers who go up in the ranks can take one of these jobs? Would that be like a "promotion" so to speak? Or is it just another job you can do for the Army to take new responsibilities?

It means when it says SSG/E6 or higher, that only MOSQ'd soldiers and sometimes soldiers willing to reclass in that grade can take them. They need a soldier in that MOS with SSG skills. Now there is the possibility that a SGT/E5 that is promotable could take that slot to get promoted.

MISO stands for Military Information Support Operations. MISO is the new politically correct term for Psychological Operations.

Most Psyops and Civil Affairs slots are in the Army Reserve and Active Duty

                    Re: Psyop, miso, io

Thanks for the replies. I came from the reserves. I understand my choices are limited. I was in an E7 slot in Oklahoma due to an empty deployment slot. Indiana did inform me that I would need to reclass, but they have no money for schools and are doing a major reduction in force right now. I was just hoping to find a new home in the Guard.
