  • Special Aviation Units?

    I'm just curious...
Does the ARNG have any Special Aviation Units similar to the 160th? Do the 19th/20th SFGs work with them and/or are they deployed together, or do the SFGs work with active duty aviators?

    Thanks.

    Re: Special Aviation Units?

No. The Army National Guard does not have Special Operations Aviation Units.

19th/20th SFGs work with any aviation asset that is is available, depending on type of mission or operation. For peace time training SF in the Guard will usually work with aviation units within the same state that have authority to conduct specialized training, such as Fast Rope insertion and or SPIES extraction systems. Some state's Aviation Commands will not authorize their aviation units to conduct such high risk training or operations.
