  • Medical Discharge?

I am going for my Pre-commissioning physical in a few weeks but have recently been diagnosed with a rare (1 in a million according to some sources) genetic non-contagious skin disease called Hailey-Hailey. Basically, this disorder is a calcium deficiency in the skin cells causing the bond between the cells to fail.

It can be painful and has been know to cause reduced activity in many. Of course, stress and sweat can cause a flare-up. My case has been somewhat mild but the potential for a serious flare is there.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with such a disease and would know if this is or has been a case where I would be forced into separation? Will the physicians start the process at the physical? Is there a way to continue staying honest about my condition and still remain in the Guard? Any insight or information would be helpful. I understand that I will find out in a few weeks, but I would like to prepare myself if needed.

    Thank you!
