  • Extra Points for Extra Benifit

If you do extra work and get more than the required points, does that increase your benifit?

Yes. Your total number of retirement points figures into the calculation of your total retirement compensation. This includes both actual duty day points as well as points earned through such things as the Army Correspondance Course Program (most of wich can be found on the ATRRS Self Development and individual training pages accessible via AKO). I am going to write this for a larger audience, so do not rain down on me for whow it reads

    - Each MUTA is equal to 1 point (2 points per day max), each day on orders/Active Duty/ADOS is one point (365 being the most you can acrue in one cander year (exluding leap years which are also figured in)

    - For ARNG (in our case) a minimum of 50 points per year makes that year creditable toward retirement - less than that and the points will count but the year will not (meaning even though you have 20 years unde your belt, only 19 might be what shows you to be eligible for - so you would have to extend one year (and meet the 50 or more points) to actually be considered to have 20 years of service toward retirement. (inludes drills and ACCP in any combination)

    - You can acrue 1 retirement point for every 3 correspondance course credit hours you take, with a maximum of 130 creditable for retirment per year ((1 promotion point is earned by Enlisted soldiers per 5 ACCP credit hours).

In short, the more retirment points you have at the end of the day, the more you will earn in retirement pay (play around with the calculator a bit and you will see the amounts differ based on either retired rank or total points (not to mention actual years served).

So do the extra work, down the road recieve the extra benefit... (for Enlisted memebers this also means more promotion points making you not only better educated with a greater amount of knowledge (by using ACCP) but alos an edge on being competitive at promotions).
