  • BAH Clarity.

I know this has been asked before but i just want clarity before i get to BCT.
I AM Married and i have 2 children. My name is NOT on our lease just my wife's and a family member because my credit score would have hindered us living in our current residence (Living there almost 2yrs now) Yet i DO pay the Rent as well as the Electric & Other Utility Bills which ARE in my Name.

So what type of documents will i need to bring for BAH so i can get the full benefits of Everything i'm entitled and qualify for.

Also if i'm not mistaken BAH also applies for AIT correct? Especially being i'm reporting to a OSUT for my BAH & AIT.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

    Re: BAH Clarity.

Bring your marriage license and birth certificates for your dependents. Also, the lease as well regardless if your name is not on it. Proof of dependents will get you the BAH but the lease shows the zip code to which you are entitle too. Remember, in your NYC unit; you might have soldiers from Jersey, Connecticut or Upstate drill with you and their BAH rate will differ. There is a 400 or 500 dollar difference in BAH for a soldier that lives in West Point compared to NYC.

And yes, BAH applies to your AIT as well.

I forgot to illustrate my point with a link http://images.military.com//ContentF...dependents.pdf

There are soldiers in the NY Guard that come all over the state or perhaps (NJ/CT) to drill so their BAH rates will different. Look at the PDF and you can see the difference between New York City and West Point which is 45 minutes apart.

No problem. And you will get more BAH than I will since I will be in Colorado. Matter of fact, you make more BAH than Generals

Colorado Springs shows 2058 for an O-7. An E-1 in NYC makes 2622. Amazing! I know its the cost of living so it shows that rank has nothing to do with it. Plus a General is making a great base anyway.

            Try this site...even easier https://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bahCalc.cfm

Also, you get the BAH simply because you have dependents. It doesn't matter if you have a lease or not.

Right. I've never had to provide more than a ZIP code, as I've always had dependents...and always rented during the time when I was in. The confusion on this topic is usually with regard to the single folks.
