  • Retirement pay

A friend who is retired from the Navy said that your retirement pay is based on your last three paychecks. I was wondering if it is the same in the National Guard. Is it based on drill pay, or the active duty pay charts?

Your friend is incorrect. Your retired base pay amount is determined by the highest 36 month average of the full time basic pay rate. Chances are this chart link will confuse you if you are new to the service, here is the info anyway.

Also, Human Resources Command has a Reserve Retirement Calculator that uses our points based system to determine your potential earnings.
