  • SLRP

Hi everyone I know this is an army national guard forum. But I wanted to see if anyone had information about the Air Force national guard. I am in CT and was told by a recruiter that there is no longer student loan repayment program for air national guard. I have been on the Air Force website and it says student loan repayment is a program offered. The army still offers it correct for up to 65k,? But not air guard? Wondering when that changed.

    Thank you.

You've come to the wrong place.....50K in repayment for the Army. Maybe more depending on exactly what you do.

What do I need to do to convince you to join the Army? Army has aviation units as well.

SLRP is 50K--period. Even though they say 51K they're only paying back 50K. I should know because I have SLRP in my contract. The recruiter you went to is either confused or misinformed or you misunderstood what your recruiter told you. At one point tuition assistance was suspended but it was recently reinstated. However, I've never known SLRP to be terminated.

But if you are AMEDD or JAG or Chaplain...it is different. There is some ambiguity there. Chaplain is actually 40K.

You're right. But I doubt that guy is going AMEDD or anything.

Perhaps....you never know he/she could have a nursing degree.

Is the new Conan movie worth watching?

Hello I am a female. Looking into medical career. I have my bachelors in business no nursing. student loan repayment was a reason i was interested to join. Any one can confirm with this recruiter was referring to? Even for air national guard student loan repayment IS an option for the medical field? I'm confused why this recruiter told me this information if its not true. Any one from CT can add input for national guard whether army or Air Force doesn't that even matter ?

Absolutely not. Don't wait for it to hit HBO/Cinemax/Showtime. Don't waste your time looking for it on Netflix. Don't even wait for it to hit a network station. This movie was total garbage from beginning to end. I mean it isn't like they were in uncharted territory. Arnold provided the perfect blueprint for all time but the new Conan movie is total garbage. I was embarrassed to be seen walking out of the theatre it was so bad. In fact, I think someone behind me in line was laughing at me when I bought the tickets. The storyline: Garbage. The characters: Garbage. The acting: Garbage. Special effects: Garbage. I've rented buy one get one free, early 80's B movie barbarian ripoffs on sticky VHS tapes from seedy local video stores that was better than the new Conan movie.

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to pay off current student loan debt or are you looking to get a nursing degree and get tuition assistance? At any rate your best bet would be to erase whatever a standard recruiter told you from your memory at least for now. You need to research CT AMEDD online to see if you can find a point of contact that can direct you to the appropriate AMEDD recruiter.

Otherwise, offhand, I can tell you the easiest way to get a nursing degree on the Guard's tab is to enlist so you can have access to SLRP and tuition assistance, then get your BS degree from a state college.

Your questions about the Air Guard and Air Force should be directed to that way.....

If you are trying to become a AMEDD officer you need to be in contact with the Officer Recruiter....incentives differ between officer and enlisted.

I am trying to pay off current student loan debt. This was an air force recruiter I spoke too who told me SLRP is OUT. I am not looking to become on office looking to enlist as a medical specialist or health care admin specialist..something along the lines. Right now I want to pay off current student loan debt and later maybe continue my education to become an RN. What do you guys suggest? Talking to AMEDD wouldn't help..

Not to be disrespectful but this is an Army National Guard website, not an Air Force or Air National Guard. The Air Force recruiter may actually be telling the truth about no SLRP for Air Force. With that being said, I can tell you my opinion of the best route to take if you join the ARNG. Your best route would be to enlist and try to get a slot as a 68W (medical specialist). As far as I know,Tuition assistance has been reinstated but you may have to ask an ARNG recruiter about SLRP. You can either try applying to the National Guard online from this very discussion board or you can physically walk-in to a recruiter office in your area and sign up.

When you are in the physical presence of a recruiter be sure to ask for SLRP and be sure that you get it in writing on your initial paperwork. Lets say that you've taken your ASVAB, scored well, and you're on your way to MEPS. You've gotten past the moment of truth and passed everything else with flying colors. You'll be taken to the NG office where you'll look over your paperwork with a counselor. MAKE SURE YOUR TO HAVE YOUR COUNSELOR IDENTIFY THAT YOU HAVE SLRP WRITTEN IN YOUR PAPERWORK. Now, you're on your way. Get sworn in and welcome to the National Guard.

Yeh I get that this army NG discussion. Just looking for answers out there so I am not being told the wrong information. There is no air force discussion board out there. You all make it a point of saying that instead of helping someone out. Information online comes from all sources so prospective enlistees are just looking for information from real sources.

That's because we are not in the Air Force.......and most of us have no experience in the Air Force. It would be like asking USPS about FED-EX policies.

50K Loan repayment.....in the Army. The Army will have more units, and thus you will probably not have to drive as far to go to drill.
