  • Double dipping, Triple dipping? quaTROOPle dipping!?

I am about to be honorably discharged from my active duty 3 and a half year enlistment and i will be going to a private school back home with high tuition rates. What i would like to know before attending this expensive school is how many of the benefits i will be elidgable for. My plan as of right now is to use my Post 9-11 GI Bill ($17,500 per year), the school offers 8000 per year in accordance with the yellow ribbon program. Okay thats all easy enouph to understand but i still will have about 10 to 15 thousand of unpaid tuition per year doing so. So I am looking into joining the National Guard and attending ROTC at this institution as well so i can commission as an officer in the new york national guard under SMP. The ROTC scholarship is not just up for grabs for any cadet so at first i thought i could just use the 4,500$ in TA and then pay the remaining balance myself each year. But hey, im a combat veteran.. i'll be damned if i can't use every drop of benefits i can. I looked into the DEDNG and GRFD and saw that the national guard will cover my tuition as well, along with many other beneficial stipends and even up to 10 thousand $ for off campus housing. The DEDNG and GRFD are unavailable to *Guard GI BILL*. What i would love to know is if i can utilize the Post 911 GI BILL collecting my E5 w/ dependant rate BAH along with the DEDNG or GRFD paying the 10 thousand for housing per year? Below is a list of all the benefits i plan to utilize. PLEASE let me know if these are all possible at once and or help with my planning in any way..

    1. Post 9-11 GI BILL ($17,500 a year plus E5 dependant BAH: $2800 M/ also including stipend of $1000 for books per year)
    2. ROTC Stipends of $1,000 a year for books plus the ROTC monthly Stipends varying from 350-500 freshman thru senior
    3. Yellow Ribbon Program ($8000 per school year)
    4. National Guard Tuition assistance ($4,500 a year)
    5. DEDNG/GRFD: Pays full tuition for full time students, $1,200 book stipend (they don't stop do they) and up to $10,000 per year or 10 months out of a year toward off campus housing!
    - and yes i qualify for the DEDNG/GRFD with my current transfer GPA, well over the minimum requirement SAT scores and all the medical stuff.
    - and NO i don't mind the 8 year contract with the NY Guard to earn these benefits.
    6. SMP* Cadet Drill pay in my national guard unit ($315 monthly)
    7. Any other scholarships i apply and qualify for
    8. FASFA - if need be
    9. Fat sign on bonus to the National Guard
    10. $10k Officer Assession Bonus upon recieving commission.
Bonus question: Choice of Branch upon commission?? hope so.. Signal Corp.

THIS IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE... NOTHING WORKS OUT THIS WELL IN THE ACTIVE ARMY. PLEASE TELL ME THIS WORKS OUT WITH THE NATIONAL GUARD.
    Thanks.

4 and 10 may not work together but that is just a guess. Talk to your officer/rotc recruiter to get clarification there.

9 won't be happening and def not as SMP.

10 May not still exist by the time you commission.

    the rest looks legit.

Why in the world would you go to a school that is so expenisve? Please tell us you are not going to school for a liberal arts degree paying that much money.

      I loled at #9.

Regardless, the Guard is still a good gig to have military ties while reaping the benefits offered...which are still pretty good.

Shouldnt the word "phat" instead of "fat" be applicable in that regard?

I would really recommend taking a look at the Benefits section of the Forum. I nearly have all the benefits currently being offered posted under a sticky. Look at the requirements and ineligibility for each benefit you're interested in. Let me know if you have any questions once you do that.

I don't believe ROTC gives book stipends unless you are a scholarship cadet, only the monthly. Also, I've never seen it done where someone was SMP and on scholarship, but it may be possible.
