  • Certain MOS limited to a specific State/Province?

I was looking through the different career opportunities for both Army/Air guard to see what mos i might be interested in.
While doing so i noticed that in each state/province it list available jobs within that particular area.
This got me wondering if specific occupations within the guard were unavailable for certain states/provinces.

Example: I live in the state of Missouri. Now lets say i was interested in becoming a 74D Nuclear, Biological, & Chemical Specialist.
but there were no available jobs for that particular mos for any base in the state of Missouri. Would that prevent me from selecting and/or attending the AIT for that particular mos within the Missouri guard or am i just misunderstanding this?

The reason for asking is mainly just so i don't get my heart set on a specific MOS that is not even available to me.

I assume i'm just misunderstanding this but i'm just trying to clarify.

    Thank you for your time
Hope someone can shed some light on this for me

Some states don't have units for certain jobs and some are just plan maxed out as the entire military continues to shrink. For example, the 12M (Firefighter) is one the most limited jobs in the Guard with I would guess a handful of units in the entire country at the most.

... State/Province? Canada is not apart of the United States thank you very much.

MOS listings are basically up to the needs of the state. If the state has no need for underwater basket weavers to complete its mission, than there won't be any underwater basket weavers.

A slot is like a seat. If there is someone already in that seat why would you put another person in the same seat? That would be weird for both individuals, right? You can't share seats in the Army. That is called fraternization (true story).

To answer your question, your state won't send you to a school (AIT) for a job they don't need someone to have.

The first answer was better. (No offense dva). In reality soldiers can be "double slotted" in a position, and under certain circumstances can be inducted into a position that has one soldier in excess.
