  • SGLI (Control Number, Insurance Policy & Certificate of Insurance)

    Hello,

I enlisted 3 months ago (BCT 5 Sep) and have done RSP drills, I signed up for SGLI which has been deducted from drill pay and shows on LES.

My issue is I would like to get a certificate of insurance, review my policy and such, when I go to https://giosgli.prudential.com/osgli...ller/firsttime to access my policy online it asks for a 'Control Number' so that I can sign up, I called the VA toll free number 1-800-419-1473 found here https://iris.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1703 but they are saying they cant find me in the system.

This control number also did not appear on my first LES, I checked with my unit and they dont have the answer does anyone know where I can get or find this number so I can access my information online.

I have searched here and google so any help would be appreciated.

Don't get wrapped around the axle like this is regular insurance. If you are wearing a uniform, you are covered. Your point of contact for anything SGLI related is your unit S-1 or Readiness personel. the SGLV form is the only thing that really matters. Whoever you list is who gets paid. There really isn't anything you need to "review" other then the beneficiary.

      Staff Sergeant,

      Thanks for your response.

I need this information for other US Government business, specifically DHS. It seems since I am already paying it would be best to get a copy of the information rather than going out to buy another policy.

Im not tracking. What information specifically are you trying to get as an end result here? Maybe im ignorant, but why would DHS care about your SGLI policy.

Maybe I read incorrectly, but SGLI is covered, for traditional Guardsmen, on and off duty?

Yes. Always. The only thing that stops a payout is desertion or treason. This is why Im confused as to what info he is really looking for.

I went to https://giosgli.prudential.com/osgli...ller/firsttime and that is for VGLI which is veterans group life insurance. That is totally different from SGLI. That is offered to veterans leaving the military who want to continue under a affordable life insurance program. Dont let the veteran in the VGLI fool you. There are better life insurance programs out there that veterans can get.

              http://insurance.va.gov/sglisite/converting/VGLI.htm

There is no control/policy number for servicemembers covered under SGLI

I didn't think there was. Even if there is, still unsure what info he is really after.

hmm, he wants to sell life insurance for the DHS and having a life insurance policy proves that he can walk the walk and talk the talk lol
