  • BAH Clarification

I'm sure this has been explained a lot, but I've been on multiple forums and saw different responses, so figured I would start my own thread.

I'm joining the Guard and going through Federal OCS in the next few months. They told me I would go directly from BCT straight to Federal OCS.

As of now I own my own CO-OP (for those who don't know it's very similar to a Condo). I pay a mortgage and hefty maintenance fee's. I am single, no dependents.

Would the Guard pay my mortgage and maintenance fee's while away? (I'm assuming things like cable would not be included). How would the procedure work for this if so? What about BOLC? Would the same be true assuming I live on base? It doesn't matter to me where they put me for the few months, I can live/sleep anywhere while training, but am more worried about who is going to pay my mortgage while I'm gone for a long time.

I asked my recruiter and he said he wasn't 100% sure because I was single. Can anyone clarify?

    Thanks for reading my rambling!

YOU are going to pay your mortgage. Regardless of if you get BAH or not, no one is going to pay anything FOR you.

I will let someone with more current recruiting experience answer on if you get it during basic, because I honestly don't know.

You will get BAH at the single rate based on the zip code of your residence.

Use this link to determine your basic pay, subsistence and BAH (single rate) breakdown.

        http://militarypay.defense.gov/mpcal...ators/RMC.aspx

Or this link for BAH only: http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bahCalc.cfm

and this link for more information on BAH: http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/faqbah.cfm

You will need to provide a copy of a monthly mortgage statement, and a DA Form 5960.

          Awesome links thank you.

So from what I gather, they don't reimburse me for the exact amount, nor do they have to see all your expenses. They just look at the overall area and give you a lump sum pay. This pay I suppose could be more or less than what you pay each month (in my case it looks like more). So I would just have to submit proof of the mortage sometimes when I enlist and go from there?

Is all that correct? Looks like a sweet deal!
