    Gov. Dave Heineman will be traveling to the Pilger area Tuesday morning to survey storm damage caused by Monday’s severe storms. Early reports indicate at least one fatality and 15 injuries at this time. Extent of injuries is unknown.

    The Governor will be joined by Nikki Weber, Preparedness Section Manager of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency. They will be surveying damaged areas in Pilger.

    The Governor has been monitoring the tornadoes and severe thunder storms on the northeastern side of the state from NEMA’s Emergency Operations Center in Lincoln this evening. Gov. Heineman has declared a state of emergency and National Guard troops are available.

      NEBRASKA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIERS NOW ON DUTY IN PILGER, NEBRASKA

      Twenty members of the Nebraska Army National Guard are currently on state active duty in Pilger, Neb., in response to Monday afternoon’s severe storms.

      The Soldiers are members of the Norfolk and Wayne-based 189th Transportation Company. The Soldiers are currently assisting local officials in maintaining public safety in and around Pilger, Neb.
