The ranks of active-duty soldiers would decline 26 percent from 2011 to 2019 compared with a 12 percent drop for the National Guard.
Ouch. It's hard to imagine an organization in any sector, military or otherwise, succeeding during an era where it cuts its force by 25 percent in less than 10 years.

The Guard seems to have positioned itself pretty well politically to weather the storm.

And the Air Force is pushing TERA heavily. http://www.stripes.com/news/air-forc...dance-1.259044 My buddy told me that with the outside market; to stay in the service as long as possible.

The problem is, it grew that amount in 10 years and now that force structure is no longer needed.

I really doubt the NG is going to pick up any more brigades but at the same time, I doubt you'll see any serious cuts in the NG/USAR. Both have changed their force structure in such a way, Active Duty is almost totally reliant on the RC to pick up that part of the mission. For instance, the vast majority of theater logistics is now being done by NG/USAR Soldiers.
