Odds are, you can't.... However, the process is as follows -

    1) Secure a 386 Conditional Release from your Command. This goes up to your BC and it is *not* a fast process.
    2) Once in hand, go to an AD Recruiter and see what they can do.

You may wish to speak to the Recruiter beforehand to see if they'll take your rank/MOS as a prior service soldier. If not, then you are simply out of luck.

Ok. I have a form from the active recruiter I have to give to my unit. I also have another question if you don't have transportation to drill and don't know when you will how is that arranged. I don't have a car

It's not arranged. Getting to and from drill is your responsibility. I'd suggest seeing if a battle buddy lives close to you and carpool.

            Do you have a phone?

Call your recruiter and/or someone from the unit and tell them your situation. You have a computer, so try e-mail too. Your chain-of-command can't help you if you leave them in the dark.

Ask a friend of family member to drive you to the first drill then being it up with your immediate supervisor in your COC that you do not have transportation and if they can help you find someone who is willing to bring you to drill.

And why are you asking about switching to active duty after not even attending one drill? If you show up witht that form on day one it's going to look VERY bad on you. I would suggest waiting AT LEAST 6 months before bringing it up.

+1. Every unit gives a unit/alert roster to their soldiers to contact members in their chain.

Roger. We get what you are saying.

Can't tell much about your or you situation from your limited posts, but I'll make a few assumptions. Correct me if I am wrong.

                    A) New to the NG.
                    B) Just finished AIT and are now back home.
                    C) The AD pay you got during your IT was pretty nice and you want it back.

Now, the problem with trying to go AD at this point are multiple. A) The NG just spent a ton of $$$ training you for a job. B) You have nothing for them to evaluate you on save a DA 1059 and PT card. C) You are slotted in a MOS that they needed, hence, they recruited you for that slot.

You are an investment. They need you where you are currently at. They have a vested interest in your performing the job you volunteered for. So, going from NG to AD at this stage in highly, highly unlikely. You can try, but you need to mentally prepare yourself for them saying "No".

Now about you transportation situation. When you enlisted, your unit and locale were communication to you in your contract. You knew you would be having to go there for drill eventually. Now, yes, bad things do happen that cause issues... transpo is a fairly common one. What you need to do is to get in contact with your unit ASAP and ask for an alert roster and explain your situation. Again though, you need to mentally prepare yourself for hearing "You're an adult, you need to get yourself here". The NG is not bound to transpo you to and from your unit.

There are plenty of resources in your platoon and I am 99% positive one of your little hooah battle buddies will help you out. But you need to do that initial legwork and make that call.

                        +100 to Tex.

Also, because of the drawdown, switching to AD may be challenging to impossible. Did the AD recruiter say that you will be able to remain in your MOS?

The first hurdle is getting your command to approve your request which may not happen at this time.

How far is this unit to your house (miles) and is there one closer with your MOS? Also, what happened that transportation is a problem? If you knew you had to drive to get to work; why did you join/pick a unit that was far from you? Also, on active duty; a car is necessary. Unless you bike it to work; living in the barracks does not mean you are walking distance to your job.

about 3 hours away. i dont know if there is one closer that has my mos. my situation was different, i had scored a 32 on the asvab and being color blind knocked me out of alot of jobs. that was the one avaliable and i know i should have said no but i didnt and that was my doing and plus there werent any other mos's avaliable, i know i should have waited. i dont have a car and i cant depend on my mom to drive me there all the time. and i fell for the belief when my recruiter said i would have a bout 7,000 saved up from basic and AIT, now i know thats bull.
