  • Switching to the ING to ETS?

So my question is regarding is it possible for a member of the national guard who signed a 6 by 2 contract and who has completed 5 years of active drill status to switch to the ING and ets? Would any bonus penalties apply? I've been told that if you had received a 20,000 dollar bonus you would have to pay back 1/6th of it, but I've also heard that you would have to forfeit the entire thing. Any help would be much appreciated.

ING puts your service obligation on hold, so that's not the best option. Request transfer to the IRR (where you could be mobilized to fill a vacancy in any unit of any Army component). You will pay back a prorated portion of your bonus.

I strongly recommend working with your chain of command to develop a way for you to finish your obligation cleanly. Most people find Unintended consequences to changes such as these, and many of them find that they have solved one problem and created others.
