Are national guard members required to go to combat?
The requirements say that all members are must report to duty two times per month & two weeks per year, are members allowed an option to choose the dates that they report?
If an individual joins the guard, are they obligated to serve a certain amount of time or can they leave (quite) at any time on free will?

    Re: Questions

Required to go to combat - YES when/if orders state you must deploy to a combat zone. Required to complete a career in the Guard? No.

Reporting for duty - NO you do not choose when you report. You are given a schedule. If a personal situation forbids you from making that scheduled duty, you can request to make it up. This is typically granted for major events or emergencies only. (Weddings, caring for a sick spouse etc etc)

Time Served - All enlistments are 8 years total, with some of those years drilling and some being on the Inactive Ready Reserve (not drilling, but still eligible for deployment.) Typically, most soldiers serve 6 years drilling, then 2 years IRR. There are a few other options.
