Does anyone know how to use the education and training area of AKO? I want to complete military and civilian courses to advance my career. To be honest, there is so much information on the site that it is difficult to figure out where to start or what courses to take.
For example I would like to work on a military course that would relate to my MOS, 25U, or perhaps another that would be an advancement requirement. In addition, it would be nice to work one that would possibly translate to college credit or otherwise help advance in the civilian job market. Thanks in advance.

There are a number of resources available to you. When in AKO go to the Self Service link after you log-in, and select My Education or My Training. The Education part will deal with links based on civilian education, and be focused more toward non-military education and training that you have access to. The Training portion witll have more of a focus on military based training. Many of the correspondance typr courses through Distance Learning are also available through ATRRS Online and provide some very valubale training.
While not all of the online training may count toward college credits, there is a high percentage that will apply toward Retirement Points and Promotion Points (both very important, especially the Promotion Points). Getting an AARTS transcript will give you an idea of what Army training is accredited; getting a copy to your school will let you know what they will accept towards thier offered programs as transfer credit. You can also manage your onlie course (military oriented) with the Soldiers Training Homepage (ATIA) (located at the bottom of the My Training page).

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I will put it to use. Do you use AKO a lot? The reason I ask is because AKO is telling me that I have to use a CAC login in the future, which I am in the process of setting up. However, I will take any advice from people who are seasoned on using it. Thanks.

Without a CAC login your password expires faster, (not to mention you cant access everything...GKO comes to mind)but its not impossible, just involves creating new passwords more often. Can walk you through how to do it if you need it.

I see. So, when the password I set up expires in 6 days then I will need to make another. Then when I get the card reader set up I will use that rather than having to change the passwords all of the time?
Sounds a little bit how my bank does online banking. I have a hardware device that I use and this is supposed to be more secure and does not require changing passwords all the time.

Yep. I have to close out of this site to go into AKO (silly computer) but you click something like 'create new password' on the log in page, choose the last option (says something about renewing password for seven days) type in your ID, an email address, and new password.
