I plan on joining for 6yrs for the $20,000 bonus, I am considering on submitting a warrant officer packet for the active duty once I enlist in the NG, If I get selected for warrant and back active, do I have to pay back any of teh bonus money?..thank you for your time....Marcus

You will need to stay in your bonus MOS for at least six months after you get your first half of your bonus and not have to pay it back. You will lose the second half if you go WO. But the NG also has WOs so just keep your options open the National Guard will be more likely to release you to a NG WO slot before an active duty WO slot, not saying that they won't release you for active duty, its all up to your state and unit.

I know that this has been one of my pet peeves for a long time, so just out of curiosity, you say your just going in for the 20,000 bonus, and then going warrant officer, but are you doing this for other reasons or just for the money. I think that there are more reasons that you should want to join for other than just the money such as the fact that you get to serve your country, but that is just me. anyone agree?

... that was my reason. :)

Edit: Just to clarify... I don't remember there being any bonuses when I went in (both Army & the Guard)... it wasn't part of the equation... so that had no bearing on my decision(s).

April...money was not the reason when I joined USAFR in '97 and will not be the reason if I decide to return to military via KYARNG.

I am taking the same route as Ward. I plan to go Warrant as as I am able to submit my packet. For me it is a career decision not just a money issue. For me, as with other PS personnel we have to be MOS qualified before we can submit the paperwork the bonus money is just an added incentive to enlist as are the other incentives such as the GI bill etc.

I can only speak for myself I plan to serve and do it with honor but I am also motivated and plan to finish my 20 so like I said for me it is a career choice.

LOL!!! ok ok... I'll maintain my bearin on this.... I served this Mighty Nation for the past 6 Years on Active Duty... Not the National Guard.. I lived that Hard Knock Life and then some. Was heavily wanted to be retained in the active army. The proof, the Army moved my BNCOC date up 6 MONTHS once they figured I wasn't staying on active duty. leaving the Active army as a SGT (P) in six years and have done every skill level a 92A has. Now its about Me, NG was giving a Larger Bonus so yes I took, It, Ima be easy on you cz your still in High School.. Im glad your joining, but your pet peeves are irrelevant until you live one day of this Life.....Ima go Warrant ASAP when I enter and I will qualify for a 10,000 bonus due to the mos being a critical mos, After that Im going to the AGR and Train the reservist full Time... So what I'm basically trying to say is, I WILL control My career not anybody else, and Serve my country and Train every soldier I can, But It will be done MY way....

SGT (P) Ward, soon to be SSG Ward in October......
Hooahhh!!!!!
