Hi,

New to the military in general. I've been checking into many branches and trying to figure out which one is right for me. So far, I'm liking the Army. However, I signed up for the AFROTC program; with the option to drop it any time I wanted. The problem is my moral waiver I had to fill out. I know this can be a tough topic to help on, but any experience/advice on the subject will help a lot.

Basically, I did some stupid things with some friends when I was 15 (under age mind you). We broke into a few places and stole some things. We were really just screwing around, we didn't even keep the stuff we took. Later, we eventually turned ourselves in. Well, we got sent to Juvy and a boot camp program called "Campo," I think they made an example out of us becuase they blew everything outta the water; we were on the news n' everything. Sheesh. Anyway, I've been extremly well mannered since. I am now 21 yrs old. Except for a number of speeding tickets I've recieved; that's all I've done. The speeding tickets were after a got a sport bike. I swear any time a cop see's me they just assume I'm speeding and pull me over, then I would get a fix it ticket for no insurance or something of the sort. I would also get a few tickets dismissed because the cops couldn't actually prove I was speeding.

So the point is; will I have trouble getting a secret clearance? This is the main deciding factor whether I should stay in the military or not. I don't have bad credit, I've paid all my tickets off. I really want to do something important with my life and I don't feel I can do it as an enlisted (no offense to anyone, my mom is enlisted). Does anyone know anything. I've spoken to my AFROTC Colonel and he can't make any promises. He said he's gotten guys in with worse, like drug problems and other arrests. But he couldn't promise me anything. I don't want to go through 2 yrs of something and then get denied a secret clearence. What's the point of going for a pilot slot when you'll get shot down by a piece of paper. Does anyone have any experience in this? If you don't personally, do you know anyone who might have had somethin simialr in thier life happen? I really need some info here; I really appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance...

Of course no one can make a promise about something over which they have no control. Personally, based on my limited experience, I think that the situation you described above would not prevent you from a SECRET clearance. Whatever you do, be completely forthright in your questionnaire. If you hide something, you'll almost certainly get denied.

Thank you very much. I've noticed a lot of your help else-where on this forum. I was hoping to get some info from you matthew.ritchie. I believe that was the lil' push of hope I needed. Any other advice from others is definatly welcome; I'm going for it regardless, though.
