Wondering if someone could help me out with my run. Problem is when I run my shins hurt. Been running steady for about a month now usually 4 times a week. but I can only make it about a mile or so then I stop and walk a little then go back to running and I usually shift between the two until my shins can't take any more. Don't know if type of running shoes make a difference. any help in this matter would be really helpful. thanks

You should check all of the workout posts from differnet people they all have very good infomation that might be able to help you. Shoes can make a difference for people running.

Thank you for your reply Specialist Purdue. I did that and got some good info and I went out and bought a good pair of running shoes.

DB35 I hope its not to late. But I always by new balance running get something that you can run threw anything not just street. What I mean is get a shoe that you can run in the forest or on sand or something. When i run I run during the night 20-21:30 Some where in their. When school starts up ill be running in the morning and at night. Also get a cd player or something and listen to your fav station. It will help you out alot.

The new shoes should help. I have some shin problems too. But the best way to treat it is to take a few days off, or if you can't, ice 15 minutes and switch off taking ibuprofen and tylenol 30min before running. The best icing method I've found is the ice bucket (not for the faint of heart! ) Just fill a bucket with TONS and TONS of ice and cold water and leave your feet/shins (up to just below your knees) for 15 minutes...it may take a few tries before you can leave it in the whole 15 minutes if it is cold enough.

I'm no doctor, but I have had problems with my shins before. I had stress factures in my shins. You could be seeing the onset of shin splints or stress fractures.

Ensure you are stretching daily. This will help you take longer strides avoiding flatfooted running (lot of stress on shins).

Another thing to try is towel dragging. After your evening shower, sit down and lay out your towel in front of you. Using your toes, scrunch the towel up under your feet. This is what I did and it helped significantly.

If your pain continues, see a doctor. I refused to see a doctor and wound up on medical hold for 6 months.

Try a different kind of shoes. Try Brooks out, you can get them at Finish Line and you get a 30 day test run in the shoe. It is the only shoe I will wear. It helps to reduce shin splints and knee problems.

the best thing i could tell you is if its that bad i get it looked at honestly i havent hear of anything that helps them you just got to run through them from what I understand but then again i am not a doctor. also dont strech before a run its been medically proven to hurt you more after you have ran for awhile or worked out then you stretch. but in truth get a doctor if possible to make sure nothin is really wrong with your shins and or knees and hey it might just be your shoes but i hope i helped in some way good luck with all
