i posted something along these lines in the deployment section. But i was wondering if there are any females out there who have already finished all their training and can tell me what it's like. Do you train with the men? Any females out there who have been deployed that can testify about what it's like?

I went to Fort Jackson for BCT. As you know, it's a coed training site. You will train with males, of course you have your own sleeping area and latrines. In the field, there were be a decent amount of distance between the female hooches and the male hooches. Just remember, everyone is under a ton of stress, and things will be said that neither side really means. Don't take anything personally, it'll all be better towards the end when the stress is dying down and you have some more personal time to associate.

I hopefully ship to basic in june some time. i graduate college in may but i have a class and a few work obligations to fulfill. apparently there are only 2 coed bases-leonardwood and Jackson. nationalguardchick, what's your MOS?

Correct, there are only 2 coed training sites.

nationalguardchick, make sure when you come back from BCT you stay in shape and keep doing your PT. That's the biggest mistake I've made, I came back from BCT to finish my senior year and I slowly stopped running, it's becoming a problem, but I'm getting it back up there :)

yeah, that was my biggest fear in regards to doing the split-op. i know i'd come down off the high of BCT graduation and i didn't want to loose all that physical fitness that I had gained.

I'm a 33 year old female that just completed bct at Fort Jackson in November and halfway through 42A AIT there. You likely will do both there also. There arent female and males, there are soldiers and/or privates. It gets a little different in AIT....not by the sergeants, but between soldiers, but especially in basic...there is no difference. Sometimes you are seperated but for the most part you all train together as one. Like mentioned, you sleep in different bays and have different latrines.

what about female's roles in iraq? from what i've been told, you do your mos when you're deployed too. but i've also heard that units have different roles during deployment too. i'm kind of confused, i guess. do all females stay in the green zone regardless of their mos??

Some units will do their job, and some will perform missions far different from their usual mission. And there are plenty of females outside the wire. Mostly doing convoy escort. I've seen a chemical unit doing convoy security even, however, I doubt that any adjutant general or finance unit do that sort of stuff. I say this because there is a need for those types of units to conduct their usual mission over there. However, there is no need to fulfill a chemical or artillery mission there.

well, my mos is 45g-fire control repairer. . .. my unit got back from iraq 2 years ago so i have no idea how long it will be before i go as i won't be mos qualified for over a year from now.
