I have a friend in the military who told me that N.G. soldiers are not activated until after having completed at least one year in the military. In other words, if I joined the ANG as an infantryman today, I would not ship to Iraq until at least a year from now.

Is this correct?

You are not considered qualified in your MOS until you have completed basic training and AIT. Therefore you are not considered deployable until you finish all of your training. After that, you are deployable.
