A unit restructuring is indeed a significant emotional event. It will be difficult in the short-term no matter what you do. Therefore, I recommend taking a long-term view. My personal experience is that the unit is more important than the job. That is, you'll tend to be happier in a good unit, even if your MOS is not your favorite. My recommendation is for you to reclass and stay in your current unit with your current colleagues. You should have a clear and compelling reason to change units, because the grass is usually no greener elsewhere.

Your immediate chain of command is whats most important to you. They will be the ones that will be there with you for the best of times and the worst. Do what you gotta do to keep them. Chemistry within a team, squad, platoon and company can really affect moral and performance.

Our battallion is still involved in a transformation from Mechanized to Light infantry and creating weapons and mortar companies. Hopefully its all figured out by 2008-2009 when NJ is expected to deploy to Iraq.

Although I don't know why they had to swap some company names..like Bravo Alpha...and Delta to Bravo. Only makes it more confusing for EVERYONE.
