So I am at 36% BMI right now, my recruiter wants me to get to atleast 34 if not lower before we go to meps. I was told that if I am between 29 and 35.9% that I will have to take the ARMS test. Is this 100% accurate?

Also I was told that the Arms test includes a step test which includes 120beats/steps per minute for 5 min. If so then this is the same as the test that US Customs gives for their employment requirment, and I can do that.. Is it like customs where you have to stay in cadence but are allowed to miss X amount of steps till u fail, or as long as you keep moving you can pass? Also I heard that at meps they take your pulse and it has to be under a certian number, is this true?

What else is included in the arms test. My recruiter has only had to do this with a couple ppl, so I figured I would ask here to see what I could come up with.

Thanks;)

Step test yes, step is 16" tall if I remember. Miss any steps, stop, use your hands to push your legs, you fail and have to come back in like 2 weeks.

Yes they take your pulse after 1 min of completing the step test. Don't know what your pulse has to be at to pass though.

I think you have to do a certain amount of push-ups as well, like 20 to pass. And they take your pulse again.

There is one more thing, but I don't remember what it is. Think it has to deal with lifting weights, maybe...

You are allowed to get off beat 2 times before you fail, and you are allowed to push on your legs with your hands. I'm not sure what the pulse has to be, and you only have to do 13 pushups. The first time I went to MEPS I failed the arms test cuz I got a big cramp in my quad. They told me that you had to be between 27-30% body fat to qualify for arms though.

For males the step is 16", for females it's 12". They give you two warnings if you get off beat, but it's really not hard. I was a bit out of breath at the end, but was fine. For females - me - you only need 3 pushups and like 7 or 9 situps in under 1 minute.

I was at 35% when I went. I recommend you get down to at least that in case the person who does your tape test *****.

The person doing the tape test *****? I'm sure they feel the same way of the loathsome fat bodies they see daily. If your going into the Army you should meet the min requirements first and foremost! I loved it when the DS smoke these fat a-s-s-e-s. Advice get in shape, lose the weight, and be able to not only pass the APFT but get a 1st class. You want to succeed? Come to basic in shape, know your bct checklist, keep your mouth shut, and ears open. Follow every detail the DS tells you and you'll succeed! Good luck and welcome to the Army!

Is ti actually a 16 inch step or a stair stepper kind of machine they use, I mean how do you know you are doing 120 steps per minute?? If they are using a metronome that seems kind of goofy

It's a 16" step and they use a metronome.
