I'm going back to military college for my final two years and am thinking about joining the guard. Whats the longest I can wait between signing up and reporting for basic.... I don't want to interfere with school so I hope it's at lesdt twelve months

You have a little under a year before you have to report to basic. In the mean time you will have to attend RSP or RHC training one weekend a month.

When will you know when your ship date for basic training is?

When you enlist you will receive a shipping date for basic training.

Since you're currently enrolled in college you can enlist under the "Split Training Option" (STO). The STO allows applicants to complete their Basic Training (BT) and Advnced Individual Training (AIT) during two separate cycles. Under the STO, soldiers can be scheduled for shipment to BT during their school break then return to their unit for regular training assemblies (1 weekend a month) until they're ready to ship to AIT. They are allowed up to a year to ship to AIT and complete the rest of their training.

As you can see, you don't have to wait for a year to enlist. Talk to a local recruiter and find out about the STO and how soon you can enlist without interfering with your college program.
