Hi after doing alot of research about SMP for ROTC I basically have two options here. One I can do SMP where I drill once a month and two weeks a year without going to basic training or I can do SMP where I drill once a month and two weeks a year with going to basic training. Now my question to everyone here is this if I do SMP without basic training would I still get all the benefits of being in the National Guard just like someone who joined the National Guard normally? Thanks

From a financial standpoint, the only thing Basic might give you is eligibility for state tuition assistance. Each state has its own rules on that, however, so it may not be the case where you are (although it is in my state, Virginia). Speak to your Recruiter.

From a personal and professional standpoint, however, you may wish to complete Basic for the experience; although you could also consider that you're effectively wasting a training seat that could go to someone else who needs it more.

Email or send me a private message, because I want to hook you up with a National Guard ROTC scholarship (http://www.1800goguard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5145). This is the best kept secret in the Army.
