Okay recently I joined up with the MN ARNG and I recently attended my first RSP drill. The other day I decided I wanted to become an Officer in the Guards. I talked withi my recruiter and he told me I had to wait till I completed BCT and AIT then I could apply for OCS.

Is this information accurate? I don't leave for BCT until 15MAY08 and within the next year I would like to try to apply for OCS and if accepted try to get an officers slot right after I complete AIT.
Also I don't know if this will affect my applicatioin process but after my training is complete my situation is going to force me to relocate from MN to NY. So would this little fact here complicate the issue?

Can someone please offer me insight as what my options are for OCS, When I can apply?

Thanks,

Dave

If you plan on moving anyway, then it seems to me that you'll have less complications if you drive on with your current contract, and start OCS in your new state. You really don't want to move in the middle of OCS. I've seen it done, but it really doesn't set you up for success. OCS is hard enough, don't make it any harder.

Before you get too deep into this, ensure that you meet the requirements for OCS (http://www.1800goguard.com/officer/commguide.php).

I have been exploring other options for becoming an officer... Well right now I'm 27 and have been in contact with the Army ROTC Instructor in MN and I think im going to pursue the ROTC route.

I signed up for Mil 1101 to see if ROTC is for me. Question is if I like ROTC and I allready have a contact signed in the Army National Guard.. What happens to my current contract if I decide ROTC is the route for me?

you can talk to your recruiter about changing your mos to 09R which is a cadet mos and get into the ROTC program. This will allow you to do OJT with the NG through the SMP program and goto college and participate in ROTC.

Understand though that if you drop out/fail the ROTC program you must have a "real" MOS to goto as 09R is only for cadets.
