To everyone in the Forum,

On behalf of the recruiters servicing the forum, I would ask for your patience as we start explaining and giving advice on the new incentives policy. Although there are some changes to the incentives (some more drastic than others), there are still some great bonus packages you may qualify to get as part of your enlistment option. The policy is a bit more complicated than the previous one but you can still get a pretty good bang as far as bonuses goes.

Be prepared to have the recruiters servicing the forum refer you to your state local recruiters more frequently than before since the bonus dollar amounts are dependent on critical unit (UIC) and/or MOS strength. (To simplify the term, unit or MOS strength is the filling capacity or how many soldiers a unit or a specific MOS within a unit is authorized to have). For example, a critical MOS in a unit is authorized 20 people and currently has 21 assigned. This critical MOS would be considered to be at 105% strength. If an applicant enlist into that critical MOS, the strength jumps from 105% to 110% (which in most cases may change the amount of dollars in bonus you can then receive). Unless the recruiter offering adviced to you in the forum is from your own state, he won't be able to tell you which bonus package you may qualify to receive, because as you can expect, even recruiters from your own state will need to be tracking how many applicants are joining and how that changes the unit or MOS strength.

This means that a recruiter from the forum will not be able to tell you exactly what you may get because it may totally depend on the number of vacancies available. One thing that I must recommend to all prospective recruits is that, once you make up your mind to join, act quickly if you want to get the maximum benefits available at the time and help your recruiter speed up the process by providing everything they need at warp speed. If you procastinate, other applicants may be filling those vacancies. Currently, the Vacancies are filled on fisrt come, first serve basis. You can not reserve a vacancy, you may apply for one and hope to get it before other applicants in your state do. Consider it work in progress that may have some adjustments down the road.

Again, I would ask you to be patient but make sure that you get the facts and make an informed decision.

Just out of curiousity, do the changes have to do with fiscal periods or the "100% strength"?

I'll venture to say that it would be a combination of both. As long as the critical unit or critical MOS remains understrength the policy may stand the entire fiscal period. If certain units or MOS's reach their strength goals, then the policy will have to be adjusted.

Currently a unit is allowed to reach 125% strength to account for future personnel losses (ETS, IST, and other admin losses). There are two tiers used to award most bonuses (whether the critical UIC or critical MOS options are used). The first tier is for UIC's or MOS's below 105% which awards the maximum bonus for the applicant status (NPS or PS). The other tier covers from 106% to 125% strength which lowers the dollar amount on the bonus since the unit or MOS is close to reaching its target goal. Bonuses are not authorized beyond the 125% strength.

As recruiters, we'll have to watch the strength of both UIC's and MOS's closely to ensure that our applicants get the most they are qualified to get from their enlistment. That was my motive in warning prospective applicants to be patient, but at the same time, act quickly once they make up their mind.
