I did read in an earlier thread that National Guard cannot be in Ranger Regiment, but can go to ranger school and have their mos switch to that of a ranger. My question is if you deploy, will you deploy with the Ranger Regiment? How does that work? What would be the point of going to ranger school in the National Guard? I am interested in this school and thanks for your time

The post to which you refer made a big deal of the matter of semantics ... one can be "ranger qualified" in any unit, but one can't truly be a ranger unless one is assigned to the ranger regiment.
"Ranger" is not an MOS, but an additional skill. Theoretically, one can be any MOS and complete the ranger course, but realistically it's very rare outside the combat arms (Infantry, Field Artillery, Armor, Engineer).
The ranger course is a leadership enhancement experience, designed to teach you to operate and complete missions under extremely adverse conditions across a wide spectrum of operations.
If you're interested, ensure that you serve in a combat arms MOS, stay in peak physical shape, and bug your chain of command once you get back to your unit after AIT.

Thank you for clearing that up. I am 11b so I am in the right direction. Your reply was extremely helpful because that prior thread did confuse me.

I was deployed to Kosovo with a Ranger from Ft. Lewis (2nd Bat) and he spoke of "school house" Rangers. Those were the ones that went through the school but didnt live the ranger life. Basically I took it that the tab is something to be proud of and hard to earn, but it doesnt automatically give you the freedom to rub elbows and trade war stories with the guys in the tan berets. But anyway, if you can get into the school, I say go for it and get all you can out of it. I was 13C and now 19D and I cant get my state to send me to anything above tricycle maintanance school. Im trying to find a way to get some high speed schools and if anyone knows a way, I would appreciate a heads up on the matter
