Hi,
I was in the USAF waaayyyyy back in 1990. I joined under guaranteed mechanical and ended up in radio ops. Stuck with it through basic and tech school. got out after reaching my new base. Discharge papers state General Discharge. I wanted to cross-train in to my field at the time, but they wouldn't let me until I had served five years.( Enlisted for 6 year duty). So I
basically freaked out at the thought of wasting five years of life on something I absolutely didn't want to do and asked my first shirt what I should do. He recommended seperations.
Now 41 (I realize age limit is 42) and wanting to do my part I have two questions.
1. Can I still join ?
2. I've been a machinist for over 20 years (before I joined the AF) do I have to pass a colortest to be a machinist in the Army too ? (This was the reason for them putting me in to radio ops). I'm as they put it a bit Green/Red and Black/Purple blind.
Hasn't bothered me much in my machining life so far.
Thanks for your time
Tim
